RE: Onan Genset

When mine was rerouted it used a longer pipe, but less bends. I figure it's a wash for backpressure. It might even be better because now it is a straight shot out the back. I haven't had any problems so far. Warranty was not an issue for my older coach.

RE: Onan Genset

I just had mine relocated from the side to the back. Fumes were coming in the bathroom window. Problem solved now and it made it a bit quieter too. Cost was about $100 at a local exhaust shop. Just make sure that when they hang it, they leave plenty of room for it to move around. You'd be suprised at how much a generator moves around as it starts and stops.

RE: A newbie MH owner with a silly question

Sorry - when you said ordinary light switch I thought you meant ordinary RV light switch, not house switch. What type of wires are attached to the switch - 120v AC type wires or 12v DC? Mine has a 12v style switch under the bathroom drawer for the water pump. Maybe someone just used a household light switch to replace a faulty 12v RV type switch. Stranger things have been done. :h

RE: A newbie MH owner with a silly question

Hello and welcome to the group. The switch in question is for the water pump. There is also one above the stove in the rangehood that serves the same function. Enjoy the coach - you'll love it.

RE: P-30 454 Exhaust

I've recently changed from the Flowmasters to the Magnaflows and am happy with the change.

RE: Fan Belt

First of all - welcome to the forum. I see you just joined us yesterday. You may find you will get more help if you can include more information with your question. Some items that could be helpful are: year/make/model of your coach, which drivetrain you have, how long you've had the problem, and what you've done to try and fix it so far. You'll find that responses are pretty quick with this group, so check back often to see if more information is needed from you. Welcome to the group :)

RE: How not to wash your moto home

I don't know why so many people worry about launching with their coach. I launched and recovered the boat shown in my signature four times in the last two weeks without an issue. One of the ramps was covered in slime, another with loose gravel. With 10,000 pounds on the rear axle the tires never slip. Because of the large overhang the tires never need to get close to the waterline. I actually prefer to launch with the coach. Don't knock it till you've tried it. :)

RE: HWH JACK PARTS

I also received excellent service from HWH when I needed a replacement jack. I ordered over the phone and had it in a couple of days. Thanks HWH :B

RE: Finding decent Motor Home Service

I'm afraid poor service seems to be the standard. I've tried six different rv service centers nearby and haven't found one yet that knows anything about the products they sell. Even when you find the part for them in their own catalog they can't seem to order it correctly. The service departments do shoddy work. I've had to redo most of the work I've had done after I get it home. I've tried the major chains and small independents with no success. It is amazing that these places stay in business. Most of them won't even return your phone calls.

RE: Transmission cooler

You can have a shop do a flow test on your radiator. This is different than a standard leak test. A flow test will push fluid through your radiator and see how much resistance it meets. It will tell you if your radiator is becoming plugged internally. Had mine checked when I bought the coach and it was about 70% plugged. A recore solved that problem.

RE: headlights

I've got the Silver Stars in the motorhome and DW's car. Don't know if they're that much brighter, but the whiter light is much more pleasing to the eye. I can see much better, but some of that may just be from reaiming them.

RE: 84 Pace Arrow

Furnace, lights, water, etc are all 12 volt DC items. Your recepticles are 110 volt AC. 12 volt items will be powered through the fuses, 110 volt through the breakers. If you have found the breakers under the bed I would probe (carefully) there. Make sure there is power on both sides of each breaker. If there is no power at the breakers there is no point in testing any recepticles until you get power to the breakers. If a breaker appears to be bad, remove and reinstall it a few times. Sometimes the contacts on the back side are just corroded. Also check to see if any GFI outlets have tripped. If one trips at the start of the circuit, all the recepticles that follow it will go dead. Cycle the little test button on the GFI a few times. Sometimes they don't pop out all the way when they trip. You can request electrical and plumbing schematics for your specific coach by clicking here and filling out the request form. It took a few weeks, but they shipped exactly what I needed and it was free. Most of the information needed for the form was on the inside of the door on my coat closet. Good luck - Let us know what you find out. Welcome to the site !!

RE: Leveling Jacks

Every time I've had service done they've used my jacks to hold it up. Most times they don't even bother with jack stands. I would'nt crawl under there without any. Be careful lifting up your axle with the parking brake up too much if you are on a slope. You don't even need to have the tire off the ground before it will roll. Ask me how I know :S If you have a trailer in tow it makes the problem worse.

RE: How long can I leave a Class-A uneven?

Most dealers would be more than happy to let you take it home on your test drive and see how it fits (especially with the sluggish RV sales now). Find one similar to what you want and try it out. You'll want to drive a few before narrowing down your choices anyways. Just make sure you back down slowly and have someone watch to make sure the tail doesn't drag.

RE: LP Gas Leak Detector Alarm

Exhaust gasses can set it off too. Mine will go off every time I leave the entry door open with the engine running.

RE: two questions

I run both when needed. The dash air won't keep the kids cool on the couch. I haven't had to change a tire yet, but I would use the jacks if I felt I could keep it from rolling. I would, however, not climb under it while lifted.

RE: Basement Door Trim Extrusion- Where to get?

Sorry, I thought you needed the gasket. It looks like the piece in the picture is straight along the bottom of the door. Any sheet metal shop should be able to bend up a piece to match the shape. A little paint and you're in business. Looks like the door covers most of it. Might be a bunch cheaper than the dealer.

RE: Basement Door Trim Extrusion- Where to get?

Give this website a try: Soffseal Web Link In the 'select catalog section' drop down, select 'Universal Extrusions" and then click the 'begin search' button. The site shows a cross-section view with dimensions for each type of seal they sell. You can order most by the foot in any length. Been looking for new seals for my doors too - just haven't got around to ordering them. Happy hunting!

RE: How often does it happen to you

Passport America does have some great deals, but here in Washington most are only good Monday thru Thursday or September thru April. Great if you're a full-timer, but not if you're a weekend warrior. Their website will show you all the available resorts and the restrictions for each. Passport America Campgrounds I did enjoy my membership until the resort I normally go to stopped accepting the Passport America card. :(

RE: My turn to wine about mpg (follow up observation)

Hi Dave. Sorry to hear the mileage is not quite as good as the 454. I can't give you a good comparison from my conversion to the 502. The 454 in mine was wounded when I bought it so I never got a good average from it. My mileage seemed to go up slightly after break-in and then go down. I suspect the vacuum advance might be leaking, but I haven't had time to tear into it. What is your cruise RPM with the gear change? I'm right about 2800 at 65mph. For my setup (carb, standard HEI, no headers) 2800 seems to be the sweet spot for cruise. For mountain passes it seems to like 3300-3400. I run about 16,500 pounds and another 1500 to 4000 on the trailer depending on which boat I bring along. At best, I've seen about 8.5 mpg. The worst I've seen is 5.5, fighting a strong headwind most of the way. My best mileage seems to be at about 65 mph. I tried a trip at 55 with the cruise on and saw a decrease. I think the 502 likes to run right at peak torque. Did you use the same type of spark plug in the 502? I tried the Spitfire plugs in my dad's coach and saw the mileage decrease. Put Autolites back in and the mileage went right back up. Glad to see you got it up and running. I'm sure you'll have it dialed in soon.
